There are 2 foam blocks loosely zip tied to the front scupper tubes. Are they supposed to fit tightly between the deck and the hull for support ? There is about 1" between the bottom of the deck and the top of the block so Im wondering if they need to be repositioned? |

Foam in Hobie hulls. Primary function is floatation. Secondary is cockpit floor stiffness. All Hobie sailboats have had flotation in the hulls to prevent sinking if the hull is breached. We added it to Kayaks maybe 2011. This is based on a NMMA National Marine Manufacturers Association requirement as well as offshore certifications for boats sold in Europe. I will ask Howie to comment on these specifically. May be just held in place. |

Thanks Matt..I know in my PA there are blocks in the same place but they are tightly compressed between the the deck and bottom of the hull. The way the blocks are in the OB there is no support at all. I thought maybe they were just zipped tied in there for shipping purposes and need to be positioned. |

Hi LoneWolf, Are you referring to the dark colored square shaped foam blocks or the white colored cylindrical foam blocks. The dark colored square blocks should wedge into the hull between the center scuppers and do add some deck support. If they are not touching the bottom and top of the hull then there is a chance they rotated or fell to one side so they can be re-positioned and wedged in there. There should be 4 of them. The 2 white colored round blocks sit under the feet for the front of the seat and should wedge to provide support.
