I was washing out the inside of the Outback yesterday, I flipped the yak over, and a hinge pin came clattering out. I didn't see exactly where it came from, but it sounded like it was coming from inside somewhere.
And now, the up/down doesn't work anymore.
I've looked at that Hobie page Twist and Stow Repair Manual that shows all about the rudder, but I can't see a pin inside anywhere.
There's a pin exactly like it that the rudder rotates on side to side, it's still in place. Where does this second one go?

That is a spare rudder pin. At one time was attached to the inside of an 8" hatch by the hinge and fell out.

The rudder up/down not working is unrelated and likely caused by the cleaning of the inside - lines got twisted or something is interfering them.

OK, that's good to know. Thanks! I guess I better take another look at it. Pretty hard to see what's going on in there, though. :D

I got it working. What was it? That bolt that tensions the drum had gotten too tight. Backed it out just a tad, and that loosened things up enough to start working again.
I was thinking maybe the lines had come apart inside somehow, but I couldn't find anything hanging loose.
I found a little guidance on this page:

If the twist you are referring to is the cable pulley, then the fix is surprisingly easy. Reach into the hull and twist the pully by hand. The key is to allow the handle for lifting the rudder to rotate outside the hull while you're doing this. If it seems to be getting worse, twist in the other direction. It takes about two minutes.
