I recently switched from a 2019 Outback to the Mirage Lynx. I fish a lot of inshore areas in SWFL and was sold on the Lynx's lighter weight (had leg/foot surgery in April, lighter makes car-topping a lot easier solo). I was wondering if I could install the Hobie-brand anchor trolley, like I had on my Outback, on the Lynx. I know it's less durable and has no inside-hull access, but would screws damage the boat? If it is possible, what would be the best way to go about mounting one? The way I have the seat set and my kayak crate tied down in the sternwell both overhang the scupper holes, covering where I would stake out with a push pin. I avoid anchoring in super heavy current.

Thanks in advance,
-Todd

There is not Trolley kit for the Lynx at this time. Due to the type of construction, you can not drill to fasten hardware. There were limitations on molded-in inserts due to molding complexities. Possibly a DIY solution tieing into the bow and stern handles or a traditional anchor. We are still thinking about that one.

Matt,
I had some ideas. How strong are the molded in gear tracks? Would a Yakattack GT Cleat installed in the track attached to an anchor hold safely? Or I'll move my crate up and stick a stakeout pole through the scupper holes. Could moderate current on the flats, pressing the pole against the sides of the scupper holes, damage the hull?

Couldn’t you make use of the inserts, fore and aft, that are for the Hobie H-Rail? Be sure to use the proper sized screws.

I would think the track is strong enough.

I haven’t felt the need to anchor in a couple of years. I just use the pedals to hold position to get a few casts to an area and if there’s no bite move on down the line, but I also don’t do bait and wait

Wonder why he used the rear insert and accessory track as his to attachment points. Front and react inserts would have made for a much longer and more practical anchor trolley in my opinion.

I’ve always heard that it is a bad idea to use a stickpin pole through a scupper hole. When I bought my Lynx I asked about an anchor trolley. As I have not had a pedal boat before this, my dealer suggested that I might find using the pedals to hold position would work in lieu of using an anchor.

I plan to try a stick-it pin with the lanyard looped over a ram ball in the forward sail mount port.

I find that I only use my anchor trolley (on my other kayak) in the forward position because I always want my bow facing into the current. I think the sail mount will accomplish the same thing since it's on the centerline. It's also close enough to unhook easily.

Has anyone used the YakAttack SwitchPad with MightyMount to install an anchor trolley? If so, what adhesive was used?

I fish in a river with my kayak, and I think an anchor trolley is a must-have because, without this set-up, I would be constantly irritated with position movement and bad angles to cast. I am using the Yak-Gear AK1 Deluxe Anchor Trolley Kit, and I have had several exciting experiences with it. The current on the river doesn’t stop me from going fishing. I can even maneuver the bow of my kayak to turn into the current smoothly.
