Post subject:  Bridle/forestay wire sizes and lengths
Am replacing the forestay/bridle setup on FX. It came with jib and spi.

My question is about factory-designed wire size and lengths.

Since I am probably going to sail with spi setup most of the time (no jib), I want the forestay and bridles that come with the spin setup. Also, it would just be nice to have an extra forestay so the jib setup does not have to be connected and disconnected if I want to switch overall setups.

No wire sizes or lengths are listed anywhere that I can find.

After Karl so kindly measured his -- which appear to be the spi setup -- I rechecked my lengths (the jib kit sizes) and they are shorter by about 4" on the bridles and 7" on the forestay. Yes, I subtracted the length of the jib rig setup at the top of the forestay. I measured "eye to eye."

There are THREE different setups listed for this boat, shown below.
For the spin setup, the bridles part numbers are not listed (see page 20 of parts catalog).

Soooooooooo, my questions are these:

1. Since the adjusters can make up the differences, do all this questions really matter, as long as you are in the ballpark? Will the vertical location of the adjuster on the forestay make that much difference to the operation of the spin?
2. Well, does anyone know the factory-designed lengths for the spin forestay and bridles???

Original bridles (with no jib or spin):

Bridles(x2) are part #17560580

Jib kit forestay and bridles (x2):

Forestay is part #17560520
Bridles(x2) are part # 17580550.

Spin forstay (no bridles listed):

Forestay is part #17560600.

Or should I just wait for the container to wash up on the beach in CA?

I just did a little test fit and I'm not sure if the American forks I have will work. My be easier to get the Hobie Europe ones. My friend Dan will have the lengths. Stand by...

Just to confirm:

Bow tang is a fork to thimble at the junction. Then the forestay is a thimble at both ends.

Did anyone else get cradles for their trailer or beach wheels with their FX or Tiger new? Show of hands? Anyone? Anyone?

All FX-ONEs come with 6 cradles since there is no other hull profile that matches.

J, you weren't the first one to warn me about no cradles and just rollers on a trailer! Scary stuff. This from beachcats pic showing damage to H17 hull from snow weight. --

Here is a picture of a solution to the briddle and forstay adjuster connections. I know it is on a Tiger but it works the same. It does not use a furler though. You might be able to adapt the idea to a furler.

You probably are using a piece of line instead of the bar to hold the spin pole. In this picture the boat is on the trailer and the mast is down.

The briddle wires on this Tiger and my FX had the same forks for ends. The forks on the FX were smaller though. I had seen a few Tigers with the forks overlapped and pinned through the shackle.
All I did was buy a longer pin that the tiller fitting would fit over.

It is holding up pretty well, it has survived several wicked capsizes and a pitch pole. And the NAs at Harrison BC, all 5 days of sailing in mostly heavy winds.

Just a note, if any one makes one of these from the picture, the halyard shackle that is on the bar to hold the Jib's Tac, use a different fitting.

When the spin sheet rolls over that release the shackle opens and out goes the jib. :cry: :cry: :cry:

Yep it happened durring NAs on any up wind leg, on port tack. :shock:

I have spliced a line onto the jib tac and now I just run it throught the shackle on the bar and then tie it off.
