I am looking at buying a 2000 H17.

I know that there have been several postings re: this topic, but nothing on a newer boat like the 2000.

What should I look for.

It has a roller jib.

They're all pretty much the same. The one you're looking at is the "17 Sport" model, since it has a jib. Given the year, it **may** have a Harken main traveller track if it was an OEM Sport and not a conversion. The Harken track is much more durable than the stock Hobie traveller, but it was never made class legal for racing (which I don't think you care about).

hello, I have a Hobie 17 Sport. but not for sale.

I have it for the wings...to sit on and lean on...and stand on.
I have it for the spring loaded center boards...the centerboards on the 18 are just too heavy for me.
I didnt want a 16, I hear they can cartwheel too easy.
It is hard to find parts for the 17s....just not as many. but my 17 seems far more modern than my friends 16.
I really like the roller jib. but it causes extra wear on the mylar sail...so I have two jibs. one is dacron.
also, my orig sport has the boomette....so no real boom...and plenty of room for me and passenger to pass from one side of the boat to the other.

there is a 17 sport in seattle...http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/boa/1427074208.html

there is or was a 17 sport in san diego/craigslist...with pink sails.

you are welcome to email me for more info, and tips and [email protected]
