I recently bought a H17 Sport and am learning to race it with my kids against the motly bunch of H16's, 17's and 18's that we have here. Its all very friendly, but I still hate getting beaten by better sailors. Go-faster tweaks are obviously the solution!

The first thing which strikes me with the boat is that there is only a single position for the jib sheet cam. Whilst this is most likely in the perfect place for going upwind, it doesn't seem to give the jib a good set away from the wind.

Although the H17 Sport is not a Class design, I assume people race them anyway. Is it regarded as "acceptable form" to add a jib traveller for racing? If so, does it make an appreciable difference and what designs are recommended?
