Hi can any one show me a photograph of a FX 1 self tacking jib setup without a pole
i have seen very vague pics but cant decide how to fix it together
i have the self tacking bar with all the pullies

 This is pic from the former owner. Still got it rigged this way. As mentioned here, this is the same setup except without the pole. There is just a simple sling made out of 1/4" line around the ears of the furler that holds the pulley normally on the pole. Also, on the left side of the mast, there is an added micro pulley mounted on the front of the crossbar and a jam cleat for the furling line. On the right side of the mast is a cleat to hold the line for unfurling. Reel it in and reel it out. I am not sure how much this varies from the original setup. It's pretty intuitive though. I can post pictures of cleats separately... |

JJ- Tie a line from the mast rotator arm up to the boom to hold it up off of the tramp bag. Helps in light air too, as mine would hang up a little bit on the bag. The biggest thing is the arm wears the heck out of the top of the bag. |

Hi thanks for the photo will try thiis out at the weekend just been sailing with the main sail as only a beginer ,then i fairly light winds tried the jib what a differance that made so will keep trying to improve FX1 are so rare here theres nothing for me to compaire with so thanks |

Yes, I will post some pics, but please give me time. Keeping in mind that this is custom rigging, you should test this idea FIRST and then do whatever you think is best. At your own risk. The sling around the furler is very easily removed. But I would recommend that you could figure out some ways to temporarily put cleats or some type of stopper on rope or something to test the setup on the crossbar and see if you like it. Ask your dealer. There's a big one at Poole? You can see the cleat on the right side of the mast. On the left, the jam cleat is really a clamcleat. Look like one of these:

brian-no-fish, Just an update. No  , I hope!Going to put the fourth block back on. The one that the jib sheet runs through, as per the instructions. This is the block shown as "2" in the self-tacker instructions. This means the jib will unfurl with the jib sheet now -- instead of the jib being unfurled with the line to the crossbar cam cleat, as in the first picture. (In the pic, the line runs from the "3" block (at the furler) to the cam cleat. The downside is this tidbit comes into play from the instructions: Quote: To furl the jib you will need to untie the knot on the traveler car for the jib and tie the sheet off to the jib clew block. Otherwise the jib will not furl completely. Yes, the jib won't furl completely. But I tied a small bowline in the line just before the traveler car. Then made a soft shackle (like this) and ran its loop through the carbo block to lock the bowline to the car. This allows the line to be disconnected easily and the extra slack allows the jib to furl completely. Plus the bowline jams and stops in the clew block when untied, so the line doesn't run out and leave an unthreaded tangle of rope. Plus it makes it easier to retie to the carbo block if unfurl again. (The jib sheet doesn't seem to be an issue, so far, so I am not tying it off to the jib clew block.) The only bummer is having to crawl up the tramp while out on the water and release the line so the jib will completely unfurl and not flap... Using the jib sheet to unfurl allows more control over jib shape and this was the reason for doing all this. It's tedious... but maybe only to explain, and hopefully much easier to rig and un-rig in the long run.  Did you have any luck? |
