Put a new MamaBob on my 17 Sport, this Spring.

Ever since I put it on, while it keeps the boat from turtling, it was MUCH TOUGHER to right the boat. My wife and I, a combined 270 lbs could not do it, although we had been able to right the boat without the Bob.

So my son takes the boat out, dumps it, and he and his wife, who used to be able to get the thing over, can't. So I go out in the rescue boat and pick up the Bob. It's full of water. I had to pull the bob off, from my rescue boat.

No problem from there.

I remember a small black plug in the little hole when I mounted it, and it was gone.

Seems kinda goofy that the plug could come out. I'm not happy, what with the money I paid for the thing. Seems like a pretty bad design to me.

Any comments, experiences, on this issue?

I've sailed a H16 and H17Sport for 27 years, with no bobs and have turtled each boat several times. Sometimes it is best to turtle (as long as your mast is sealed and the water is deep enough). There is nothing more stable than a turtled cat. Also, you can select which side right the boat from. Generally I only capsize in heavy wind, so un-turtling and righting the boat is not a problem since I have the wind on the tramp to help. 8)

Mariner Sails, from whom I made the purchase, has been very gracious, and has offered to send me a new plug, or refund my money, whichever I decide.

I just haven't decided yet.

fastcat, you mind if I ask how much you weigh?
