Hello,

I'm a french guy and I'm the owner a Hobie Cat 17 for about 20 years
As I'm not familiar with the boat vocabulary, please be indulgent with my (probably) poor english. :?

Recently, I discovered that one of the wings was moving to much in the front.
It looks like the fiberglass cylinder where is inserted the wing is broken inside the hull in the bottom

I discussed with a friends with some knowledge in Catamaran repair and he suggested I install a hatch on the top of the hull close to the front beam; this way, I'll have acces inside the hull to do the fiberglass repair .

I'm trying to find now the exact location where I can make this hole

I suppose there are some reinforcements or bulkheads inside the hull especially close to the beam

So I'm looking for the hull inside design or pictures

All suggestions are welcome.

Pascal

See the article "Recharging Megawatt" in the May/June 2006 HOTLINE magazine.

Lot of photos of the inside of the forward wing mount.

Thanks a lot for these informations.

I'm just wondering now if someone knows if there are some reinforcements close to the front beams (and where they are exactly located).

Indeed, I need to make a hole on the top of the hull (+/- 5.5" diameter) to install the hatch and I want to be sure I'll not hit a bulkhead or a reinforcement.

There are no bulkheads. The only reinforcements are two braces on the sides of the centerboard trunk.

If you put the hatch about 25 cm behind the front crossbeam, you'll be fine.

I just did all 4 and it was simple, nothing there (18" behind front x-beam and 18" behind the rear x-beam as Matt says). It did take a while to get all the small cracks sealed. The tubes are not super clean (rough) so hard to get the glass to form a nice covering. I ended up using some filler as well. It didn't look pretty on the inside. Curved deck plates help but are not perfect. They need more "curve". For your fix, you might insert PVC tubes (waxed with mold release) and have them in place so you have something to form around. Good luck.
