Hi guys, Was the red glue used on the '86 H17s? If it was, did those hulls have the same issues as the H18s? Any other problems that the glue created in these boats? Thanks for the heads up! |

The crossbars on the 17 don't attach the same way the 18's do, so I don't believe they ever had that problem. I don't know of any other problems associated with the red line boats that would have transfered to the 17. |

First things first- there weren't actually issues with the glue itself on the "red glue boats". So the red glue did not cause problems, the red glue simply indicated that the hulls were a lighter construction. The original 17s were quite light and my understanding is that they were the lightest hulls ever built. So I would definitely give the hulls a thorough inspection, especially considering that they are now over 25 years old. On the other hand, if they've lasted this long without issues they're probably fine. I suspect that when you look at the boat, it will be very clear whether the hulls are ok- at this point they will either still be rock solid or be totally soft. sm |

SRM has it right. Only the very first 17s were light. To my knowledge, none of them are still in racing condition. They would have been 1985 models. After that, the boats got heavier - much heavier. Like 350+ lbs vs 315 lbs. |
