Just when you think it is safe to go back in the water, fall is upon you and the high winds you have waited for all summer. You eat it a few times, you hit the shore for a few martinis. Then you realize your boat has named herself.

Alcohol can do strange things to your mind and your boat. But it's the boat I worry about more - brain cells regenerate (I think). Boat cells don't.

Thankfully, the last time drinking aligned with boat-naming there was quite a "sobering" distance between me and my boat. So I've cleverly left my boat named "Hobie 17". However, if the boat were closer that night, "BLOW ME" is the name my wife would have scrubbed of the boat the next morning :-)

as is the name of a Catalina 27 on Seneca Lake

And, actually this is not MY boat. I agree, Hobie 17 works for me too.

This is the boat and story of a rather fine humourist, winemaker, fisherman and sailing friend of mine. Well, those are his professions. He makes a living in the dental practice.

When I grow up I want to be him 8)

Not to be overly critical..

But shouldn't that be almost below the waterline, as when the boat is upside down, it will then be above the waterline and readable?

I don't know, but I hope to go out tomorrow or Friday with the boat owner, my buddy Dan.

Perhaps it will be windy enough to find out....

Wee Haaa!

At the first sign of storm we sail!

Well, bphendri12, the boat floats at the deck level when turtled, so you can read it!

A sudden gust took us by surprise. This what happens when you don't pay attention and your arm is wrapped around a side stay.
This is gonna hurt tomorrow! 8)
