Post subject:  H17 downhaul upgrade - pictures please!

Sorry, I know people have posted on this before, but none of the links seem to work any more.

I want to replace the cam cleat and pully on the side of the mast with something that works better. I've read that racers like to run the downhaul line out to where they can adjust it from the wings, and have a cleat on each side of the mast, but I can't imagine how that is set up.

Can someone post pictures? Details on the parts you used would also be nice.

By the way, I have both a Sport and SE setup, but usually sail with the boomlet, not the boom. I'm a big guy, and not as agile as I was when younger, so I like the clearance I get with the boomless setup. Also, I don't use a jib, for one simple reason: I don't have one. The boat came with the sport rig (roller furler, etc.) but with no jib, and I haven't gotten around to getting one yet. It sails so well as a cat rig I haven't been highly motivated to get a jib.

While I'm at it, it should be possible to rig something so I can use the boom rotation limiter without the boom. Has anyone done that? I was thinking perhaps I could just remount it so that it points forward, and then run some lines back to the jib cleats on the forward crossbar, since I usually sail without the jib.

I posted a question about this matter some month ago. Strange that no pictures can be seen.
I'm in the same position where i have a cleat on the boom (even worse solution) but now i have an idea of how
to do it with exit blocks + cleats on each side of the mast.
I've seen boats where the downhaul line coming out from the exit blocks are connected with the trapeze wire.

It's not strange that the pictures can't be seen - there are some things on the internet that are not forever (like when GoDaddy screws up the server where those photos were hosted).

However, they are still in the Google image search cache.

And I still have the originals, of course. The boat in the photos is mine.
