how thick main sheet do you guys recommend?

8 mm (5/16") runs through the blocks well and is OK on the hands.

The boat originally came with 3/8" (9.5 mm) - easy on the hands, but did not run through the blocks as well.

You should use a polyester/Dyneema blend, single braid line. New England Ropes Salsa is the best here in the US, but you might have a hard time obtaining it in Europe. Liros Magic Sheet looks comparable - http://www.liros.com/en/products/produc ... sheet.html.
