I wanted to see what everyone has done to make the 17 sport more solo friendly. Namely the downhaul setup. I wanted to run a dual cleat setup run out to the wings so it can be adjusted from the wire. Maybe running the jib sheets out there as well? Any other ideas? I come from F18 class boats so I am just trying to take some rigging tips from there.

Running the downhaul to the wings is very common. I mounted a spin lock on each side of the mast about 18 inches from the base. Most use a little double block on the S hook attached to the foot.
There were some photos by M Bounds in the Hobie Hotline which showed the class legal mast control. The photos also show the downhaul setup which most are using.

Perfect. That’s what I was planning to use as well. Secondary question, while looking for setups I saw where someone had their righting line under each wing. Being that this is much more complicated setup (not to mention how you reach it once on its side) is there a benefit to this setup? Does it provide more leverage?
