Just broke a dagger board on my 17.
is there enough resistance to sail without the dagger boards? Lite wind. No heavy stuff.
Thanks in advance.

I’m sure there are plenty of other H17 racers around who have gotten to the top mark, made the turn to go back downwind, gone to pull the daggerboards up and realized they sailed the whole upwind leg with the boards up....

Yes, the 17 will still sail without the boards, but certainly not as well as with them. If you sail with the boards entirely removed, I think you’re also going to get a lot of drag from the open cavity in the bottom of the hull. Probably a lot of water squirting up from the hole in the deck too.

The H17 doesn't have dagger boards, it has center boards. That being cleared up, without center boards all points of sail will suffer except directly down wind. Pointing next to impossible. So fix or replace. I own 4 center boards and have had to repair each, 3 hooks and 2 blades.

Matt has an excellent piece he did years back on doing centerboard repair using some 3/8" carbon fiber rod.
Perhaps he can direct you to where you can find that article he did in Hobie Hotline.
