Post subject: | Hobie 17 Main Sail Without Boom |
I own a 1992 Hobie 17 which I bought used 15 years ago. Serial # CCML2572D292. The main sail tore (original OEM sail lasted almost 30 years!). When shopping for a sail it appears it attaches to a boom, which my Hobie doesn't have. My main sail attaches directly to the traveler. Looks like there were a few different rigging options for this model? Is the main sail the same for all 17'? Also, should I replace the battens? They seem to be in good shape. |

The original 17, later called the SE, had a boom and no jib. When the Sport Cat came out, it had a jib and a boomlet on the foot of the sail. The hulls, wings, and mast were the same. |

How do they attach to the sail? I've thought about adding a boom to the Getaway to improve sail shape, but a boomlet might be an easier solution. |

The boomlet is for the 17, its metal 'boom' about 12" long and they attatch to the sail of a 17. I can't speak to the use on another boat |
