I am still trying figure out a few things about the H17 SE I bought. I need some advise/comments on the downhaul setup. Here is the deal; I got 2 sails as follows:

(Sail 1) Original sail with full boom in good condition.
(Sail 2) After market square top Calvert sail with boomlet in almost new condition

I would like to be able to keep the option of using one or the other.

OK, here's the photo. Unfortunately, you really can't see the gooseneck.

There's a triple block hung from the tack of the sail. There's a double block pinned to the base of the mast (a pin goes through where you've got a single block shackled - that's the pin the boom-end pin is supposed to go on).

The reeving sequence is:

Through port cleat and down to sheave in mast base
forward to aft through port mast base sheave
aft to forward in port side of triple block
forward to aft through port side of double block
forward to aft through center of triple block (this reverses the "rotation")
aft to forward through stbd side of double block
forward to aft through stbd side of triple block
aft to forward through stbd mast base sheave
up to stbd cleat turning block and out the cleat.

Tie the ends on the front corners of the wings so you can adjust from the trapeze.

This gives you the maximum 6:1 class legal downhaul.

This is a big help! I'll see if I can recreate this reeving tonight. There was 2 blocks at the bottom of the mast, 1 was smashed and I removed it before I took the pics. I'll bet there were 2 bolcks instead of the double.

I could be wrong, but to me, it looks like you still need a vertex. The pin shown at the base of the mast is for the sheaves (you are missing the halyard sheave). There still should be a stainless steel part at the base of the mast that recieves the end of the boom. As it is shown now, there is no way for the boom to rotate independent of the mast.

Your downhaul cleats are ok, however personally, I prefer to have the release upward, not downward. (The sheaves on the cleats must still point downward).

With the old boom pin style (round, hole vertical), there is a stainless piece that attaches to the mast base that allows vertical motion. I don't think it's the same as the current gooseneck piece, but Matt Miller would know.

No, that's not correct. The bolt that goes through the mact base casting should have three sheaves on it, not two.

The center sheave is for the halyard (missing on your boat).

You're missing the stainless steel gooseneck piece. Part #50406231

Where does the gooseneck part go? Does it go in the same "slot" as the downhaul shackle.

The gooseneck piece is a bit complicated to describe. It looks a bit like a 16/14 mast step link with another piece of "C" shaped steel welded on the side.

It slips in where the center sheave goes and is secured at the lower end by the bolt that the sheaves are hung from. The upper part slips in where you've got the downhaul shackle and is secured by the pin that is supposed to be there.

That leaves the "C" shaped steel part facing aft. It's got holes top/bottom for a pin that goes vertically to which the boom end pin is attached.

Look at the parts diagram closely and see if you can figure it out based on my description.

I looked at the parts list after reading your post about what is required and I think I get now. I was trying to hook the vertex to the mast, which won't work because I'm missing the gooseneck! :oops: It looks like to make this "right" I need:

Gooseneck
Boom roll pin upgrade with flat oval end
Vertex (hobie or trentec upgrade)
