Does anyone know if I could install H16 jib cars and tracks on a H14? I am in the process of converting to a turbo, and I kind of like the adjustability of the 16 setup. The only difference I can see is that it would move the blocks about a foot forward. And it probobly isn't class legal. Any comments are appreciated Thanks Marcus H14 Narragansett Bay |

You're right about it not being class legal. That aside, the real problem with doing it is the height of the bridle and the sheeting angle. The 14's bridle is much higher than the 16. By putting the sheets on the crossbar, you make the sheeting angle more vertical. You would have a tough time getting the jib sheeted flat enough to do any good, even if you had it cut down to accomodate the change. You could lower the bridle, but that puts a lot more sideways force on the bows - force that they were never designed to handle. |

If you have the grommets in your tramp for the jib blocks and you can rig a jib block support wire, you can cut the traveler car off the H16 jib blocks and use those in the proper position for a 14 Turbo. On the other hand, you can mount the track and jib car on the SIDE beam and work out some kind of reverse barber haul system to bring the control point of the sail to the proper position on the boat. Just a thought.. |

Thanks, I think that's what I'll probobly end up doing. It seems like alot of 16 jib cars show up on ebay. I just liked the idea of having a traveller of sorts on the jib. I race a Soling as well which is a 27' keel boat. Everything is adjustable and this helps in varying wind conditions. Marcus H14 Narragansett Bay |
