Hello everyone,,,,I just took ownership of an older hobie 14, sail #39553. I watched it sail 3 years ago and it hasn't moved since, except to my front yard. The price was free and it came with all the parts, I hope.

My plan is to get it to sail again so my sons will have a different kind of outlet. I have ordered a catalog to see what the prices for parts and accessories might amount to. The sail has a few holes and patches in it and logic tells me that I need a new or a good used one. The mast has a slight bow in it and I don't know what that might mean. I don't intend to race it.

The hulls seem in pretty good shape with a couple of bad patches around the stern. The trampoline looks good but needs new grommets here and there. This boat spent its whole life on the sand of Casey Key, Fla.

I've got a bad spot on one of the siderails where the rigging attaches, holes in the aluminum you can put your fingers through.

With a limited budget and lots of time I am just starting to formulate the beginning, middle and end of this idea. My fallback position is to scrap the sailing idea altogether and figure out a way to mount a small outboard and turn the platform into a shallow draft bay fishing boat. Has anyone ever done this???

I am interested in any and all advice I can get.

Thanks ahead,,Steve

Give me a call--I do a lot with 14s and can probably get you the used parts you need and offer some advice on repairs.
