Can't find the answer with a board search, so ...

The rudder blades on this 14 have cords attached, possibly a lift system? Where the blade pivot bolt goes through the casting, there's a cupped "washer" or rope guide.

The 14 parts list doesn't show any of this, my guess is that it's a post-production modification to allow the upwind blade to be lifted while trapped out ??

You folks are great ...

Landlocked,

It's called a "kick back kit" and it's on page 21 in the Hobie parts catalog, which is available online or to have mailed to you. I can't go without one.

I've seen it in the catalog. Tried to study what it's good for... Please, what is so good about this thing?
I'm sorry, but I've sailed my 14 around a'bit and don't understand why I need one?

If you're rudders kick up and lock down well, you don't need it - unless you sail in a place (Corpus Christi) where there are big jellyfish that keep kicking the rudders up.

If your rudders don't lock down well, then this gadget will help keep your rudders in position (up or down).
