I'm interested in running a spinaker on my H14T. Has anyone had experience rigging a spinaker on a 14T, and does the 14 sail OK with a spi e.g. is it too overpowered to be practical? Thanks, Roger Sacramento |

Thanks for the info. I know that the current way to go is to use a reacher, but I'm curious about how a flat asymmetric spin would work. My understanding from reading up on the 16 spi is that with a long pole the spin can provide some lift - which might help with the H14s tendency to nose dive? Has anyone tried it? With the new mid-pole snuffer setups, the sail should be as easy to handle as a reacher. Roger |

Those 14s with the screachers (Hooters!) were mine. I preferred the screacher because it furled and unfurled VERY quickly and it could be used upwind. It added a huge amount of lift to the boat--when I capsized, it was over backwards upwind! Downwind, I would trip over a wave. I can get you the recipe for the pole and Chip Buck from Whirlwind can make you a sail. He has my measurements and makes a great (and affordable) sail! |

The boat for sale in the link above is the same one in my beachcats album with the 'Aaarg!' sail. For $1700, that is a great price. The boat is light and has extra parts and newer rigging. A friend sold it to the person who is selling it and I don't think he ever used the Hooter! I rigged it with a custom Hobie 18 style jib that has a zipper and furles. Chip Buck made that custom for me. Hobie should have made them that way or at least like the 16 where you can raise and lower the jib. One bit of warning, though. They are REALLY hard to right with that screacher! |
