Without trapeze (and someone hanging from the trap line) the front crossbar only supports the mast.

But with 150-200 pounds of meat hanging donw from the mast..... pressing down therefore on the front crossbar...

and maybe a bit of banging depending on conditions....

that can put some stress on the crossbar for which it wasn't designed.

The dolphin striker assembly (like mentioned) distributes the load... like a truss... so that when you're pulling down on the mast via the trap wire... and the mast is jammin down on the crossbar....

that everything stays in it's correct shape so your day isn't ruined.

pretty much any system will work, but you need something.

It's the strut pointing down from the base of the mast.
