Post subject:  Help with H14T jib w/o furling assembly

Hi group - a newbie question here, but after a good bit looking around the forums and whatnot, I still can't quite solve my problem.

I am the proud owner of a 1983 H14T or perhaps a H14 converted to a Turbo. It appears to be a native H14T, but the boat didn't come with a jib furling assembly. There is also no system of blocks to raise/lower the jib. It appears that I'm suppose to simply connect it to the upper forestay before I raise the mast.

Can someone help me on how to rig the jib to the front stay in the absence of a furling assembly? My jib seems to have a lot of excess play in it when connected to the stay/mast shroud lines.

Also...what's the purpose of the little piece of hard/bent wire in the attached picture? Like a human appendix, I can't quite identify its purpose. Should it be pointed in or out?

thanks much.

best

The piece of wire is from an old wind indicator - the plastic vane (long gone) pivoted on the end part.

The OEM Hobie 14 Turbo did not have a jib halyard. The jib had a wire sewn in the luff that acted as a forestay when the mast was stepped.

Sounds like you are missing the furler and the upper swivel.
