Hi, I'm going to finally put in a trapeze system on my 14. What length does the trapeze shockcord need to be? I checked the 'Hobie Cat Line Guide' and there is nothing mentioned for this under the 14 but there is for the 16: Trapeze Shockcord 1/4" Shockcord x 7' w/2 Loops Trapeze Adjustment 1/4" Halyard x 3'6" Isn't the tramp width roughly the same between the 14 and 16? If that's the case should I go with the shockcord length listed there? What about the adjustment line how long is that? Should I follow the 16 here as well? Also what's the best way to make secure loops on the ends of shockcord? Thanks, |

The 14 is 6 inches narrower than the 16, so the shock cord should be at least that shorter. For the loops, you can either use "hog rings" or just tie knots. I prefer knots, since the hog rings need to be taped or covered with heat shrink tubing to keep them from scratching up the sidebar. You can use plastic hooks, too. Use the same adjustment line length as the 16. Bottom line - neither of these dimensions are critical. Rig the trapeze wires and adjustment lines. Tie the shock cord to one adjustment line end and run to the other side. Take the slack out of the adjustment lines at the shock cord attachments until the wires are pulled just taut. Trim off the excess adjustment line. Done. |

Thanks again. I think I'll go with the hooks on the bungee, that should make rigging everything a bit faster. |

The only problem with the hooks is that they hook more than just the adjustment line. They have an annoying tendency to catch the straps on the back of a PFD, too. I tape them up to keep them from doing it, but it kind of takes away the convenience factor. |
