I'm in the process of replacing the hound on my mast, and when I removed it from the mast, I found a corrosion hole where one of the rivets attaches. This hole is quite big, around 3cm across.

What is the recommended repair? Should I Tig weld it or place a patch over the area where the hound attaches, the attach the hound to this?

That mast doesn't have many miles left on it. Like I'd be scared to use it in anything but light air.

Reinforcing plate if you insist on repairing. Welding is not recommended since it removes the temper in the heat affected area.

I dont know about Australia, but here in the US used masts can be found for $50-100. I would start looking for another one and don't even bother fixing that one. Put some duct tape on it in the mean time so your mast doesn't fill with water when you capsize.

There's a guy on catsailor.net selling parts. I don't know if he's still got a 14 mast as it is an old thread and he's at Lake Maquarie so it's a bit of a drive.

I wouldn't recommend sailing with that mast much longer... and especially not in heavy winds. Not really a fix for something like that just in the meantime like the other guy said put some duck tape on so it doesn't fill with water.
