I got one of the old style step hinges with my newly acquired H14 Turbo; the kind with separate holes for the 14 and 16. However, I also have one of the newer hinges I use with my H16. Will the newer style hinge also work with the H14 mast?

As long as it has the two holes (three total), it should work.

The 14's mast is so light, the original way to step it didn't even have a hinge or a hook. You stood it up in the sand at the front crossbar, then lifted it vertically and set it in the step. As mast rake increased, this becomes more difficult, since you can't keep the mast vertical as you lift it - and it gets away from you.

Lacking a step link, I've stepped the 14's mast with just a small piece of line connecting the base and the step, or someone just holding the base while I step it.
