you will see that it talks about battens standing up, almost standing up etc

Does anyone know what this means?

I believe that if you lay the batten and sail on a flat surface and apply tension to it the batten will flex like a smile. I believe this what standing up is. More tension bigger "u" shape. What I would like to know is how you taper the top battens with a belt sander?

I suspect that you sand the area where you want to have the draft so that it is thinner than the rest of the batten

Go to the "beachcats .com" site under doit yourself tips, tells you how to do it step by step I'm in the proscess of doing my getaway now is not hard just ichy.
