Hi,

I just got an old 14T (1988) in pretty good shape. The bottom of the hulls were re-gelcoated by one of the previous owners but s/he was rather lazy and did not sand the gelcoat.

I'd like to do that before sailing so the hulls have a slick surface. In order to dot the sanding job I think it's best to put the boat upside down so the bottom of the hulls point upward.

What is the safest way to put the H14 upside down? Can I pivot it on one hull or is it better if the side bar and associated castings are used for pivoting? I'm afraid pivoting the boat on one hull might put too mch stress on the side of the hull and/or the pylons.

Any help appreciated before I do the wrong thing.

You are overthnking this. Just lift one hull, roll it over and have someone lower it on the other side. Unless you let it drop dead weight on concrete or something you are not going to hurt the boat. Its easier to work on if you elevate it on something. I use resin chairs.

Take the mast, rudder system and any other loose bits off the boat before you roll it over like Sunvista suggests.

Yeah, what he said. Rolling the boat over with the mast up is tough. :lol: Definitely remove the jib cars and cleats or they will get bent and caked up with dirt.
