Post subject:  16 Blocks on 14?

Hi All,
This is a great, informative little spot-thanks from a new owner of a pretty OLD H14! Here is today's question, one of thousands :? I broke the ratchet block 2nd time out on this boat (it's a brown fiberglass collector's item!) Picked up some used H16 blocks but they have 2 boom blocks instead of one. Is there any reason why I can't add another block hanger (bail?) on my H14 boom and use this mainsheet system on my boat? (Besides the fact that I don't know how to rivet a new bail on the boom?) Thanks for any input!

I have modified my 14 to have two fittings to attach the boom blocks. It works just great. I put the new one about six inches futher out. Have used it over 20 years.

Geoff.

Thanks so much for your reply, I'm wondering if anyone else out there has input on this (before I destroy my boom). Particularly on the placement of the new bail on the boom I read somewhere on this forum that there is concern over pulling the sail one way or the other? Or something? Can I also assume that if I sell this boat the new system will be yet another reason an ambitious buyer could NOT ever race it? Thanks alot everyone! :)
