Post subject:  Boat age?

I just bought 14 and I'm trying to find out the age of it. There are no numbers on the transom of either hull. The pontoons are white with blue tops and the sail is white with 1 light blue panel. Any ideas?

Also is normal for a 14 to not have a dolphin striker? Is this only an add on for making it a turbo?

Here is a link to a good article for finding a boats age.

http://www.hobiecat.com/support/article ... erial.html

"For boats that are older than 1973, a four digit number was used. the number was stamped into the forward plyon post on the outboard side. The plyon posts are what the trampoline is supported by above the hulls."

My 14 has the 4 numbers stamped into the forward pylon post, So i guess shes an old boat :)

The original Hobie 14 did not have a dolphin striker. It only necessary when adding a jib and/or trapeze.

I found 6087 stamped on the left front pylon. It's before 73' but does that number tell anything else that may give a better idea of when it was made?

Boat serial numbers in the 6xxx range are from '72.
Those are some of the highest stamped numbers I've seen. (My first 14 was 5052).
