First Hello Everyone my name is John ! I just picked up a Hobie 14 not sure what year it is but i was told it was a model A , it has a-lot of sun fade on the top of the hall. I'm really new to this and have never said before so this will be a learning experience. I'm hoping everyone can chime in here feed me with some wisdom. Today I on my own figured out how to put the mast up and the sail and take it back down. The previous owner told me i need to re-due the upper surface of the hall . so some tips there would help. Anything at this point will help. Thank you very much for your response!!!! |

[quote="The previous owner told me i need to re-due the upper surface of the hall . [/quote] When he said re-do, was he referring to faded gel coat, or is there some delamination or other problem? Here's a link to a you tube video on buffing oxidized gel coat - may help. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74sEyot5A_o Good luck with the project! |

And yes there is some delamination going on here with a-lot of soft spots, well 4 any way . Now i have never drilled through this boat but from what i'm reading i need to , and fill with some type of epoxy . If i could figure out how to post a pic you would see the problem i have . |

Keep in mind that in 102F temperatures, the epoxy will kick off much more quickly than on a 70-80F day. If you have a large area you're fixing or are unfamiliar with using epoxies, you may want to wait for a cooler day, or at least find a shady place to work. You don't want the epoxy to harden before you've completed the injection process. sm |

Yes . Now i have done a lot of fiber glass work , i use to build Nitro Bass Boats I just never come across sun fade and soft spots. I ordered the Git Rot today and it should be here tomorrow. I moved my self around the house today chasing the shade I plan on working the grid slowly tomorrow hoping to finish at least one Hull and getting it ready for paint. |

I fill it today but i think it's going to take more then what i put in , i ordered the 16oz of the Git Rot as i seen in other post and from what i am seeing it needs more , so do you think it will hurt to add more at another day ? If not i will buy more and do it in steps!! |
