I have a 80s hobie 14 i am interested in getting a mast step or hinge so i can self rig, the base has the right holes for the hinge but my mast base has no hole in it. can i drill a hole through it to make it work or do i have to get a new mast base.

You may have to grind out the inner sides of the mast step area where the link and bushing attach.

I used a dremel cutter (#115) mounted in a drill chuck to bring the inner sides of the area where I removed the stainless pin to parallel. In the photo, I could only insert the link as far as it shows.

Works like a charm once installed. (oh, those are my son's dirty fingernails, by the way! :lol: )
