Are there bushings available for the old style stainless steel gudgeons? I am trying to remove all of the slop from the rudders, but I get a fair amount of movement between the rudder pin and those two pieces and the from hole on deck were the rudder pin slides through. Thanks |

The short answer is no - there are no bushings that fit the stainless gudgeons. You can drill out the deck lip hole and insert a plastic sleeve in the hole to firm the connection up. The only way that I know of to firm up the stainless gudgeon / pin connection is to remove the gudgeon, fill the hole with epoxy, then carefully drill it out to the diameter (3/8") of the pin. It will leave a thin ring of epoxy in the hole. It doesn't last long, but it does work. |

It seems like nothing is easy when it comes to tweaking this boat. I'm thinking a bushing in the top hole of the deck might tighten things up enough for now, until I can think of something else. |

Bottom line is that unless you're racing, the little bit of slop you get between the pin and the gudgeons is not that big of a deal. This isn't precision equipment. You can try a slightly oversized pin. Standard is 0.375" - 10 mm is 0.3937" and would be a much tighter fit. You can get metric rod stock from McMaster-Carr (www.mcmaster.com) |

If you look closely (jiggle it) you will probably find most of the rudder slop and wear on older boats is in the bore of the lower rudder casting. You can buy a bushing kit for that. I think I got one from Murrays. |
