Post subject:  Hobie Cat 14 evaluation
Hi guys,
I'm pretty new to this forum so first a quick introduction. :)
My father and I owned a Class A and I sailed with it for quite some time, both at sea and lakes. The cat was good but pretty old (it was from eighties) and eventually it got worn quite too much so... it was time to give it some rest.

Now it's more than a couple of years that I'm without a boat and I was thinking to take a used Hobie Cat 14. I have looked at some of those but the last I found seems quite interesting.
It is from 2009 and it spent all it days by the sea. I've taken some pictures of it and I'd like to have your feedback about it. My biggest concern is about oxidation, but also the helms have some scratches.

Could you please give me a feedback about it?

Looks like someone did a hatchet job on the rudder. I believe the jib should be connected to the cable with a shackle at the bottom and tied at the top to stretch it out. The jib has been weathered for sure, sun and rain are the enemy. How do the bottoms of the hulls look? Is the gelcoat worn away? Since it's made in Europe it has updates we don't have on older 14s. Looks like you have a solid aluminum mast, no comptip. Someone must have been in the habit of wrapping the main halyard cable around the mast when it sat on the beach. Normally you'd pull it straight down and use the rope section to wrap the mast to keep it quiet.

Looks ok. Replace the wire rigging to be safe.
Repair the fibreglass rudders
And go sail it and enjoy. Jib needs to be lower. Shackle straight on to furler
They a pretty much bullet proof the 14 Turbos.
