Has anybody switched over to 6:1 on their 14. Looking for a lower stack height and not so much for purchase power. 5:1 is plenty for me.

Saw a Getaway with a triple on the bottom with a double on top with a becket which is 5:1.

Is anyone using the 8mm (5/16) mainsheet? Opinions?

I use my 16 blocks on my 14 (triple upper and lower) modified as such
(only works with carbo upper with hole through center of block)

Untie sheet end at lower block
Run sheet through center of upper block and put a figure eight in bitter end

Voila, you have a 5:1. Definitely low profile

Pretty sure my Salsa is 8mm
Have H192 lower and 40mm upper
Zings through nicely and easy on the hands

I have 6:1 on my H14. It works nicely. I too have 8mm Salsa main sheet and really like it.

You might want to look at the pdf “Setting Up a Hobie 14”. From the pictures it appears that both Wayne Schafer and Bob Curry are using 6:1.

I purchased an 89 Hobie 14 turbo and it came with the triple block setup. Anyway it came from some one who didn't know alot about sailing as it had some fat nylon rope for a mainsheet. I'll have to look into the 8mm, as I'll be using these blocks for another 14 I'm restoring. I'll be selling the 89 as a standard 14. just bought it for parts. Someone put portholes in front of the pylons so I don't trust it as a turbo.

Agreed that 5:1 is plenty for the 14
I can bend my boom with my 16 blocks rigged as 5:1
