I have a Vagabond 14 which is the same boat as the Hobie 14 I believe. I just bought the boat last year and my second time sailing it the PORT stay broke while I was in the middle of the lake. The mast came crashing down and we had to paddle in. I was wondering where is the best place to buy a replacement stay and what is the best way to replace it. It is attached to the mast so it looks like I need to use a rivet gun unless there is another way to attach the stay. I have pic but I don't seem to be able to get them on this post. Any help with that would be welcomed also. Thanks, -BSAWard |

The Vagabond is a monohull, so not the same as a Hobie 14 Catamaran. The Vagabond became Holder and then Hobie One, so similar to the Holder 14 and Hobie One 14. Thanks for clearing that up for me. These are the pics of the mast. It looks like you could probably just carefully cut off the existing wires from the mast tangs. Then attach the new wires to the mast using a shackle between the thimble in the wire and the hole in the mast tang. Or, another option would be to have the rigging shop use a swaged “fork” terminal on the upper end of each shroud wire. This would allow you to pin directly to the tang (measure the hole diameter, position, and thickness of the tang first to make sure the fork will fit). Either of these options would allow you to replace the shrouds without removing the tangs from the mast. sm |
