Is the H14 turbo more or less likely to pitch pole than the H16? |

Hard to say. A lot depends on crew weight, skills, and conditions. They are both essentially the same hull design with the 16 more or less just a scaled up version of the 14. Both are very prone to pitchpoling as compared to just about any other beach cat. sm |

Having owned both, with the same crew weight, the 14T was more prone to pitch pole. The 14 hulls are less buoyant and will sit lower in the water and 2 feet shorter, it all adds up. With 2 people on a 14T it's even possible to sink the whole hull while flying just before you do. Either case, they're still a lot of fun!! |

Agreed they both are prone to pitchpole, I own both and have been launched from both. The 14 will teach you good weight distribution for sure. I started on a 14t and I weigh 230#. Once went to a 16 I felt like I was on an aircraft carrier for a bit, that is until I started really learning to sail and pushing it to the limit. I believe having started on the 14 has helped me feel when weight needs to be shifted on the boat. |

I’ve owned both and agree the H14 (in particular the H14T) is WAY more prone to pitchpole because of the substantially smaller hull volume up front. If you can master going screaming fast on the H14T, you’re among the best. That’s said, being a new H16 owner, the biggest difference I’ve seen with how to handle the H16 “at the limit” va H14T is that the H16 jib is BIG and it’s POWERFUL. So when you dump the main, if you still have the jib set, the boat doesn’t come back from the brink as fast as the H14T will. And the other big difference is the H16 is ridiculously fast compared to the H14T in medium to big wind. So much more power and capability. Keep the glass side down and go fast. |

I should add that for single-handed fun and relatively low pitchpole tendency, the H17SE (non-sport) is hard to beat. It’s a lot heavier than the H14 though and more fussy in its design. H14 and H16 are awesome beach cats in their ability to be easy to use but also fast and fun. |
