So I found a hobie 14 online for $160 and bought it. Trouble is I know nothing about sailing so I can't tell what I'm missing.

The frame, pontoons, trampoline, mast, and boom are all there. The sail is in good condition.

What I'm unsure of is the rigging. There's a lot of aircraft cable guy wires for the mast... Two coming from the pontoons at the bow, and one of each side of the boat. I'm confused how to tension these too so I haven't tried raising mast.

I think I'm missing some parts to control the sail and boom but not sure. There was a rope line that went up the mast but it needs replaced. I have a sliding metal part on stern frame that I think is the traveler... Not sure though. I seem to be missing the pulley system for control of the sail but after looking online there's a million options and I'm lost on what I need.

The boat is old, 1978 I think, so I also question it's overall durability. Pontoons seem fine, faded and minor wear but appear solid. Frame seems good, trampoline seems solid. Mast is straight and weathered but visually looks ok.

Thanks in advance for helping a rookie out.

I started my Hobie 14 project in a similar way. First thing I looked at was a parts guide to see what I had and what might be missing.
A lot of the parts on a Hobie 14 are also used on a Hobie 16 as you will notice as you dig in a little deeper. Here is a parts guide but there are several companies that offer Hobie parts.

Start here....https://www.hobie.com/support/hobie-14/

Also, catamarans don’t have “pontoons”, they have hulls.

Try to find some local experienced assistance......that will save you lots of time and frustration. Add your location to your profile.

Wow! This guy is in the same fix I'm in, but I bought my Hobie 14 for $20 at an auction.
I'll follow the threads closely.
My big question right now is the steering system. I have two rudders and attachment to the pontoons (I forget what they're officially called). I have a stick with a ball on the end and two more sticks that go to the rudders.
How is this hooked together and am I missing anything?
I've searched online for hours and can't find the answer.
Thanks for your help in advance,
Bob

The link in srm's post has several useful documents that can be downloaded. The first one is the Assembly Manual. That will walk you through putting everything together. The parts lists are also useful for helping see what parts go together.

I'm located in Williamsport PA.
My stomping grounds is basically central PA, close to State College (Penn State).
I've pretty much have my H14 together. I need the main sheet ropes and blocks, and a few other hardware items.
I modified an old boat trailer and can drag it around now.
I would welcome anyone willing to help me learn to sail.
