I have a 1986 H14 that I picked up as a sailable project last season. I have been fixing and upgrading as I have fun with the boat and it is nearly exactly where I want it (for now LOL). Most recently I did a rudder job, cams, bushings, stiffening kit, toe adjustment, etc. While I was doing the work, I discovered something that I hadn't noticed before. My boat has the adjustable upper casting on the starboard rudder but the non-adjustable one on the port. As a result, my port rudder does not remain butted against the lower casting as it should and has maybe about a half inch of play.

Of course, having just reworked my rudders, this is driving me nuts and I want it fixed. I started shopping for an adjustable upper casting and all I can find are the brand new ones for $262. Can anyone help me out and point me to a source for a reasonably priced used one? When I say reasonably priced, I'm thinking about the pricing that I have seen on similar parts like lower castings for $50 and such.

tdive5 on Ebay carries a lot of used parts and seems to have a good reputation.
If you can get some machining done, there have been a couple of threads on converting older castings to adjustable on these forums. Basically you elongate the hole where the fixed pin is now, replace the pin with a bolt that can be moved fore/aft to adjust, then tighten.
And you can always try the drill and fill method.

The only ones currently on Ebay are the brand new ones for the same price as they are at Murray's, $262. I put out a request on a couple of the Facebook groups and found someone willing to sell me one. I'm waiting to hear back from him about price. Another person offered a pair of them for $150 shipped, but he won't split the pair, so if the other offer doesn't work out, I'll spring for the pair.

I posted a WTB ad at the Hobie FB page and found a pair for $150 shipped. I guess that $75 each is far better than $262. I could have waited and possibly found them for a bit less, but when I want something, I typically don't like waiting around too long just to save $10 or $20. I didn't need both but the seller didn't want to split the pair so now I have a spare I suppose. Pretty soon my garage will be full of not just BMW parts, but also Hobie parts too.
