My Hobie Cat 14 took a nose dive when it hit a big wave. Nothing broken. Happened slowly. Not scary. Big pain because I needed help righting it.

The wind was not the problem. However, with wind comes waves. What would be the maximum wave height one should avoid?

Hard to say given all the variables. H14 is probably the most sensitive to waves due to small size and relatively low floatation at the bows. Also you need to factor in what you’re comfortable with and your experience level (no judgment… bad things happen when you get out over your head). Around here if more than half the waves are whitecaps and the wind is 15+kts… that’s about max conditions for an H14 unless you’re expecting to do some capsizing and are Ok with that.
