Post subject:  Non-standard Hobie 14 ID number?

I went to look at a standard Hobie 14 today, which is in great condition, sails well and which I would like to buy, but I cannot work out the age of the boat. There is no VIN plate attached but the following letters and numbers are stamped on the stern of each hull: FR HCC 02 F 900.

The boat has a brand new, but unnumbered Hobie Cat mainsail, so I don't even have the sail number to go on?

I know that the FR HCC part tells me that the boat was manufactured in France by the Hobie Cat Company, but the rest doesn't seem to conform to any of the standard HC identity number formats?

Any help to unravel the mystery would be appreciated?

Never seen that sequence. Must be a European system? Where are you located?

Looks like some characters missing but the F900 at the end, if accurate, could indicate June 1999 manufacture of a 2000 model year.

Euro VIN requirements would be different. Contact Hobie France for any guidance. [email protected]

Thank you for the replies received so far. I have contacted Hobie Cat Europe based in Toulon, France and have received the following reply:

Hello
Your hull number should normally start with FR-HCE and not HCC
The 900 at the end of your hull nr means the boat was built in 1999 with a 2000 vintage
The letter F means that the boat was produced in July
Regarding the sail nr, it is impossible to confirm which one your boat originally had because the sail nr is not a means of identification of the said boat and that from the moment there was a change of GV, there is bound to be a new nr.
All HC14 mainsails supplied by Hobie Cat Europe have an original sail number.

I will post a photo of the mainsail if someone can tell me how to. I'm buying the boat from a bona fide Sailing Club, so am confident that everything is as original as possible given the boat's age.
