Post subject:  Rudder Tiller and Crossbar end caps

I am riveting crossbar end caps on my 73' H14. The orginal caps were just going to be riveted back on but after looking at how loose and sloppy they are, have decided to replace them. Their are two parts out their-one is adjustable and the other isn't. The tiller tube end cap (part # 10400010) is what is on both the tiller tubes and the crossbar-the new part is adjustable, #60400011. I am wondering if the tiller tube end cap will fit on the crossbar or the new style adjustable end cap can be retrofitted to the crossbar and if so how. I need Hobie help here!!!

The original boats had the same caps in both locations. The 10400010 tiller arm end cap is the same as what you have and will replace any of the 4. Years ago we added the adjustable feature. You can retrofit the adjustable 60400011 end cap to your cross bar. If you want it to adjust as designed, you would cut the tiller cross bar a little shorter. This would allow the adjustment longer or shorter of what you had, but you should measure the rudder "toe-in" first to see if the original was even close to correct before making any cuts. You may want longer or shorter.

Proper rudder alignment would be 1/8" to 1/4" toe-in on a 14 or 16. This is measured with the rudders down. Measure leading edge to leading edge and then trailing edge to trailing edge. The front (toe) should be closer together than the trailing edge. Measure at about the little hump on the leading edge and straight back from there for the trailing edge.

I also need some help with part #10400010 (tiller end cap) I have drilled out one which broke. The replacement does not have holes for the rivet to go into. Do I just line it up and drill it prior, or is there some other method of attaching a replacement?

Don't be afraid to spring for the the Miracle 20 setup if you are going to spend to much money fixing the old setup... That is money well spent IMO
