We are famous for our wind and beaches. In the picture you see the cove beach where cats and daysailors play well together. On the left you see a beach area at the back that is the Cheney Pirates Beach, plenty of camping, room for a dozen cats and great fires that last all night. Our lake is ringed by coves and beaches, I have always wondered what some of the cats do when they suddenly fly off of the beach, sail accross the lake to a beach that cannot be reached any other way than by cat; they hang out there about 30 minutes then race around the lake for the next hour.

Some of my fondest regatta memories of the early 80's are at Lake Cheney. On the beach between races, reefing the main on the 16...looking out at the 100 or so Hobies, seeing a dozen turtled, a random pitchpole every minute or so. When were the pictures taken that the wind wasn't howling? If anyone has second thoughts about 35 mph and gusting stay home. Absolutely the best catamaran sailing lake in Kansas, Missouri or Iowa, WELL WORTH THE SIDE TRIP!

John, Is there a place to park an RV near the beach?

the peninsula to the right has power for sure. A short walk to the South is old Hobie Beach (North Loop).

Are you attending this fine event http://www.div14.hobieclass.com/default ... 10853/3277

You cannot reserve campsites at the Ninnescah sailing center, but there are (45) reservable sites at the North Loop (Hobie Beach) with power and water.

Wow! That looks good. Unfortunately, my wife's broken leg won't be up to a regatta so we won't be at the Cat Chase. Also, we still have some practice and learning to do before I skipper a race.

Right now, we both work on Sundays, but starting the first of the year, we'll have Fri, Sat, and Sunday off. So, with weekends off next season, we'll be set to participate in lots of events. Looking forward to getting up your way and sailing.
