The wind warning lights are on Hwy 5 warning traffic. I have yet sailed on Lake Comanche. I am a little leery of being the only boat out on the lake though. A breakdown could make for a very long day with out any help. So I might wait till spring.

Anyone have an opinion on sailing San Luis Reservoir near Los Banos, CA? I'm interested in taking my H18 there. What are the winds like? Best time of year? Camping? Boat launches? Beaches for landing? Thanks. |

It looks like a lot of wind. This site had a good description. http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=558 I am thinking of sailing Lake Comanche for Thanksgiving. |

Thanks, Jeff. By the way, I suppose I should call the park to ask what the "wind warning lights" are about. I've driven past the res on I-5 and had to hold the wheel with both hands due to the wind, so that must have something to do with it. How's the sailing on Comanche? |

I have windsurfed in the O'neill Forebay a bunch. This is to the east of the dam. The forebay is a regulator for water levels between the lake and the canal so the water level can vary. There are shallows, not sure how good it would be on a cat. Hot windsurfing spot (High Wind). There is camping on the waters edge. Good, fairly consistent wind in the afternoon. PWC and other powerboat traffic can be heavy at times. There is a large sandy beach, surrounded by a grassy area with picnic tables and BBQ grills. Very nice boat ramp and docks, although sometimes gets crowded, especially on long weekends.
