Looking for the best place to launch/sail on lake lanier near Atlanta, Ga. Or any other good place to sail around Atlanta.

Also, looking for any hobie sailors in the Atlanta area that might like some company?

I currently am sailing out of Aqualand Marina (NE side of Lake Lanier) as I store my H18 there with the mast up for quicker rigging time and more sailing time. I have not checked but I think you can launch from one of the ramps there for a fee.

Last year I sailed out of Tidwell park on the SW end of the lake. There is a std boat ramp there with a parking lot to raise the mast but not a good beach near the ramp when the water levels are up. I ended up having the crew hold the boat in waist deep water off the side of the ramp while I raised and lowered the mainsail. The advantage of Tidwell for me was that it is close to where I live and you have a big open part of the lake right there.

I would be interested in getting together sometime and sailing on the Lake, send me a PM.

Is there a launching spot on the Lake that's near a sandy beach?

Aqualand Marina has a sandy beach next to one of the boat ramps but they are not for public launching, only for people storing boats there.

Tidwell Park on the Cumming GA side has a sandy beach when the lake is down a little but it is not right next to the ramp.

I am not sure about other boat ramps.

We discovered Van's Tavern a few weeks ago. It has a nice sandy beach all along the boat ramp, even with the lake being 10 feet low. There are 2 boat ramps but one has been shut down because of the lake level. We use the ramp that is shut down because the post is easy to get around with beach wheels and it puts you in the main part of the lake. The other boat ramp is in a cove that is pretty protected from the wind so you may have to row a bit to get out.
We also were using Shady Grove in Cumming for a few months but you have to pay their camping site fee to get access to the ramp. Shady Grove has the best beach by far on the lake.
It would be great to see another cat out there.
