Back to Edisto Beach in August. Great sailing as usual. Waterfront house on the Sound about 500' from the ocean. Easy in and out with the big Hobie 21 SE also there was a 18 magnum and a 14 turbo. We did get the usual ticket from the turtle police which we threw away. Only bad day was when after a long sail everyone was standing in 4' of water in Sound and some kind of jellyfish went thru the group. I have never been stung that bad. No one saw the jellyfish.

You have arrogantly disregarded a local law. "The usual ticket", it sounds like this is not your first ticket for this violation. Have you any respect for the law?

On our Gulf of Mexico beaches we have laws covering what, where and when things may be left on the beach. I can leave my boat on the beach during the daytime but at night when the turtles are active on the beach it must be pulled up on the dune so not to interfere with their egg laying and hatching.

You should learn and follow the local laws and customs.

More importantly, you have pissed off the people that have an organized lobby for protecting "their" turtles from "our" boats. The volunteer that sees the torn up ticket he will tell the rest of the Turtle Patrol of the "clown" from Oklahoma and the torn up ticket. Now 50 turtle people will think that beachcat people are bad and not worthy of using "their" beach. When they complain to the local authorities, all of a sudden a new law appears that further resticts our access to the beach.

If you go back next year, before you put the boat on the beach get up early and look for the turtle patrol. Politely ask him where you may leave your boat, apologise for your past behavior and ask if you may pay the ticket.

To Mr or Mrs JKKARTZ
Well Well Well I guess you told me, However you are IGNORANT and UNCIVIL. I have been going to Edisto for 50 years and have been a Hobie Owner since 1971. The turtle police at Edisto Beach are dedicated unpaid citizens who look out for turtle nests, mark and protect them during the season. The TICKET I received was actually a note about the rules and regulations concerning items left overnight on the beach. WE get this note every trip. Our three Hobies were stored about 200 feet behind the high water mark in a flat area on no grass. This is NOT in any way a nesting area and Indeed this house was chosen because the boats can be stored and not interfere with any sea turtles and not damage any sea grass. The Hobie Way is to respect nature and other Hobie owners. I am a Admiral in good standing and the current owner of a HC 21 SE and a HC 16 and hope you write Edisto off your place to sail.

Truce

Once again we are separated by the language.

Whenever I hear "ticket", I think civil citation for a violation of a law. A flyer stating the beach rules is not a ticket.

You have followed the rules for the beach and I hope that you continue to enjoy your home away from home.

If you get to Florida, let us go for a sail and have a beer.

Jack
