Post subject:  NJ - Ocean City beach permit

I’m looking to put my boat this summer, somewhere I can sail without trailering every time. The closest beach/bay/ocean to my home is Ocean City, NJ. There are few boat ramps that accommodate Hobie’s well, and the waiting list for an ocean beach permit for a beach-cat is very long. (longer yet if you are not an Ocean City property owner  ) So I was wondering………………….

Does anyone have an Ocean City NJ Beach Cat permit that they don’t use and want to sub-let?

OC probably wouldn’t like it but I know there are people/residents who have Beach-Cat Permits from years past that they maintain just to hold on to them. I was told the wait list is decade’s long and resident property owners have first right-of-refusal. I don’t expect to ever get a beach permit unless I by a home on the island (not likely on my budget).

Any thoughts?!?!

John, that sounds like some obstacle to overcome.
I believe you were the one to first tell me about the Stone Harbor cat beach. Is that too far for you to travel?

Or you might try getting in touch with Wally Myers to see if he has a tip on getting on the beach in OC.

Yeah. I really like the Stone Harbor Hobie beach, but it is a longer drive than I want to do every weekend. If I leave my boat on a public beach I’d want down to get to inspect it weekly. Ocean City is about 40 minutes from home. Stone Harbor is closer to 1 hour 20 min.

I’ve been told (more or less) if you don’t own a home on Ocean City island we’ll never get a beach-cat permit. I know there are more permits issued than boats on the beach. If someone is holding on to the permit but doesn’t currently use it (or even own a boat) I was hoping they would want to make back some of their money.

I might know of a Margate City beach permit that's available.
