Had seized bolt on H-17 crossbar anchor pin. Bolt head stripped out while trying to remove. Solution:
1. Drilled out top of bolt with 9/32 in drill bit. Used Relton cutting fluid to help drill cut thru the stainless steel.
2. Used Hanson EX-5 extractor (same as Easy Out) to twist off the bolt head.
3. Pushed down bolt thru cross bar with screw driver.
4. Replaced anchor bar and bolt.

Suggest you use 5/16 in -18 NC tap to clean up Anchor Bar threads prior to installation.

Tight cross bar bolts critical on H-17. We tighten every day.

Now take required tools to all Regattas.

Had seized bolt on H-17 crossbar anchor pin. Bolt head stripped out while trying to remove. Solution:

1: Use hacksaw blade to cut through bolt at crossbar / hull interface.
2: Remove old bits of bolt and anchor bar.
3: Replace with new bolt and anchor bar already in spare parts bin.

Life is good :D

True story from the 2001 Hobie 17 NAs, Vancouver.

:) Hey Matt, I was there. Remembed seized bolt and anchor problems with boats broken down for trip from California. Forgot the hacksaw trick. Had to be a tight fit, normally not room to get the blade in.

Dave Wilder just mentioned he uses Permatex Nickel Antiseize, part # 77124.

How about that current at Jericho? Always a fun place to sail.
