Post subject:  What kind of rope to use

I just purchased a used Hobie 16 and am looking to replace some of the worn lines/ropes (such as the mainsheet line, tramp lines, jib sheets, traveler line, righting lines, etc. You get the idea). I can match the thickness of the lines easily enough, but am wondering if certain types of natural fibre or synthetic ropes are preferable over others.

Thanks.

For the sheets and halyards you'll want to use low-stretch sailing rope. As long as it falls into that category you can pretty much choose based on color. For the tramp rope you can either use the same low-stretch rope ($$) or you can use a $4.99 50' rope from Wal-Mart and get comparable results. For docking lines I like the stretchy colored ropes you can get from Lowe's or Home Depot. (Usually they're in a big cardboard box in bundles of red, blue, brown, or green.)

:)
