So there are just miscellaneous repairs that need to happen on my H16. I'm not up to speed on what the parts are called but I can describe them. I can provide pictures if requested too. These are what I've noticed after searching for anything out of the ordinary. -The left rudder assembly where it goes through the hull is loose. Almost seems like if I ripped at it hard enough, I could pull the whole thing off. -LARGE soft spot in front of the left pylon. I went and measured it and there is about 41" long x 8" wide all the way down. I've read a lot on how to do this myself, but it seems like this might be too large of a soft spot to do it myself. -Sail has a snag where it goes into the mast. From the boom it's probably about a 3rd of the way up. It makes it hard to get the sail all the way up. -The right stay where it connects to the hull, that connect jiggles a good bit. Do I need to take the boat to a Hobie dealer to get the repairs done? Or can any fiberglass shop do the repairs (minus the sail)? |

Depends on your dealer. Not all are set up for repairs, but others can do glass work and sail repairs both. Call them. They can point you in the right direction if they can't do it themselves. http://www.hobiecat.com/company/dealer.html |

Before you spend a dime on anything, have someone knowledgeable look at that soft spot. A 3.5' long by 8" wide soft spot on the forward deck of a 16 may very well mean the hull is toast and not worth repairing. Tuning up the rudders is usually not too bad (sounds like maybe your rudder pins need bushings). The bolt rope on the sail can be patched/re-stitched if it has a hang up. And your shround anchor bolt probably just needs to be tightend with a pair of plyers (look under the lip, you'll see where it threads into the anchor bar). The soft spot is the biggie. sm |
